Dr. Om Bedekar (Dr. Major O. A. Bedekar, Retd.) is a Pune-based psychiatrist and psychotherapist with a medical career spanning close to four decades. He completed his MBBS in 1986 and his Diploma in Psychological Medicine (DPM) in 1989, and began practice as a Commissioned Officer and Medical Officer in Psychiatry with the Indian Army Medical Corps, where he served from 1987 to 1992. He went on to work as a psychiatrist at the Muktangan de-addiction centre in Pune, and subsequently served the Government of India as a Director for over twenty-two years, from 1998 to 2020. Since returning to full-time clinical work, Dr. Bedekar has run a private psychotherapy and psychiatry practice through Om Mind Care in Pune, offering both online and in-person consultations. He is a Master Practitioner of Brief Psychotherapy and the Founder of The Milton Erickson Institute of Pune, and works with concerns including anxiety, depression, insomnia, obsessive thinking, grief and bereavement, trauma, habits, inner conflict, difficulty making decisions, career and life transitions, and medical symptoms that persist despite normal reports. His approach draws on brief psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and crisis intervention, with an emphasis on helping people move past stuckness in as few sessions as the problem allows.
